ASEAN recognizes AboitizPower DU’s efforts to alleviate poverty

Aboitiz Power Corporation distribution utilities Davao Light and Power Co., Inc., (Davao Light), was the Philippine winner of the 6th ASEAN Rural Development and Poverty Eradication Leadership Awards for its corporate social responsibility program it implemented with partners to enhance the quality of living and the standard of living of the people in the service area.

The RDPELA, a biennial event of the Senior Officials meeting on Rural Development and Poverty Eradication, is designed to promote and recognize community development and antipoverty efforts in ASEAN member countries.

The RDPELA acknowledged Davao Light for its efforts to help local cooperatives and organizations like Samahan ng may iba’t-ibang Kakayahan sa Dabaw, as well as establishing vocational technical facilities for the Philippine Department of Education through Project e.Lab.

Rodger Velasco, President and Chief Operating Officer of Davao Light, said: “We are convinced that providing our kababayans with education and opportunities for upskilling and sustainable livelihoods will open more doors to help them escape poverty.” We hope to contribute our fair share, as the Davao Region’s poverty rate is 11.9% by 2021.
