Anya Chalotra is the Indian actor from ‘The Witcher.’
A look back at Indian actor Anya Chalotra, who plays witch Yennefer of Vengerberg in The Witcher.
If you watch Netflix shows well, you’re probably familiar with The Witcher, a fantasy drama series created by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich. This visual concoction of monsters, high drama, and magic is based on a series of books by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. Henry Cavill plays Geralt, a witcher, in the first season. Anya Chalotra, who plays the sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg, is also getting much attention.
The youngest member of the Council of Sorcerers and one of the most powerful mages (magicians) in the series. You’ll see her slaying monsters, saving lives, transforming from a farm girl with a hunchback into a prima-donna. Anya Chalotra is on the rise.
Here’s what you need to know about Anya Chalotra of The Witcher
Anya Chalotra, 24, started her television career with another Netflix British drama, Wanderlust, in 2018. She played Jennifer Ashman on the show. In the same year, she starred in BBC’s thriller series ‘The ABC Murders’ with John Malkovich.
Animated science fiction Sherwood came out in March 2019, and she played Robin Loxley. It wasn’t until Chalotra’s performance in The Village at Theatre Royal Stratford East that she plays the rebellious, independent teenager, Jyoti. The latter questions the tyrannical processes of police inspector Gangwar (played by Art Malik) that critics noticed her. Chalotra’s performance is ‘compelling.’
She honed her skills at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and Guildhall School of Music and Drama after being born in South Staffordshire to an Indian dad and an English mom. She then started acting and did plays like The Merchant of Venice, Great Expectations, and The Crucible across Britain.
Already, she’s lending her celebrity status to several charities, like Girl Child, a project by Wolverhampton-based fine art photographer Sarvjit Sra. She’s also on Leonardo DiCaprio’s Earth Alliance team.
She’s been making safe fashion choices, like the sequinned, white Manish Malhotra sari she wore to The Witcher premiere in London. We’re looking forward to seeing her create a sartorial balance with just the right amount of ethnic fashion, given her Indian heritage.
